Vitamins and minerals research task
Both vitamins and minerals are essential in the diet in small quantities and so they are often grouped together as micronutrients. Vitamins are chemicals in foods. Minerals are elements other than carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen that are found in the body. If we don’t have these micronutrients we can get deficiency symptoms.
Your task is to choose a vitamin or mineral to research and to produce a presentation. Your teacher will tell you whether your presentation needs to be a poster, a PowerPoint presentation or a report. Your target audience should be your fellow classmates and you should include the following information as part of your presentation.
· The name of your chosen vitamin or mineral
· What foods do you need to eat in your diet to obtain it
· What is the role of this vitamin or mineral in your body
· What is the effect of not having enough of this vitamin or mineral
· What is the effect of having too much of this vitamin or mineral
You need to use the listed resources, and others if you wish, to produce your presentation and you need to show, in this booklet, that you have taken data from several sources, understood the main points from it and then explained what you have learned in your own words.
